Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) is an international organization centered on cultivating youth empowerment through the foundation of education and holistic support. BHGH affiliates help academically capable children in need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered opportunities and education.
We are committed to BHGH through board leadership, technology support and the Steward Scholars program. In 2019, BHGH Steward Scholars were provided with scholarships to their respective universities and sponsorships to attend learning conferences such as the BEYA, Women of Color in STEM and the annual Black Data Processing Association conference.
As the only STEM-focused, all-female public school in Missouri, Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls engages their scholars in STEM courses that are taught from an interdisciplinary approach. Many assignments are completed within project teams in an effort to replicate real-world work environments.
Annually, more than 50 WWT women leaders volunteer at Hawthorn Leadership School, serving as mentors, helping students explore careers, assisting on school projects and doing community service. The mentors serve as academic and personal accountability partners for the students and, ultimately, serve as professional resources.
It is important to us to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching careers for military veterans and young adults from under-resourced communities.
Our partnership with NPower provides these groups with training, professional development, internships and job placement assistance. Our employees volunteer as board members, guest lecturers and mock interviewers. In many instances, we’ve hired NPower participants.
In 2019, we hosted NPower’s 40 by 22 Convening Session to advance women of color in technical careers, address gender and racial bias in the workplace and foster a more diverse and inclusive workforce. WWT’s Convening Session focused on propelling career growth and wage equity.
Our partnership with NAF works towards the goal of using work-based learning as a catalyst to create a Future-Ready world.
We hosted a Future Ready Lab, a paid summer internship for high school students focused on developing their interpersonal and professional skills. Throughout the program, interns interact with multiple lines of business, tour corporate and university partner facilities, complete work-study courses, participate in panels highlighting opportunities for technical education and careers, and volunteer in community outreach activities.
Through recruitment, workforce inclusion and education we provide our employees with the resources needed for success. Employees are not only encouraged to better themselves in the workplace, but to give back as well. Every WWT employee is offered the opportunity to get involved in their community through our Day of Caring initiative. We encourage all teams to participate in community outreach programs by sponsoring team building activities with an emphasis on volunteering within our communities. Our goal is to create positive change for the communities we cherish.
Our supplier diversity program is a critical component of our company’s success. WWT has developed this program from the same foundation as the rest of our business – our clearly defined core values, corporate vision and mission. This program has helped improve the sustainability of our organization through developing partnerships with minority-owned, women-owned, disabled veteran-owned and small business enterprises. WWT ensures all of our business partners and suppliers are committed to conducting business with the highest possible standards in regard to ethics, labor, employee health and safety, diversity and the preservation of our environment.
