Converged Optical & Routing Orchestration Lab

Solution Overview

Convergence of traditionally disparate networks such as Layer-1 (optical) and Layer-3 (routing) requires scalable deployment and management capabilities. YANG data models were introduced to solve this problem. YANG is a universal language designed to program any device in the network, regardless of vendor.

As YANG was adopted by network operators and supported widely by equipment vendors, automation tools were developed to simplify the process of creating and deploying network wide configurations. This lab demonstrates two of these tools, Cisco’s Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) and Itential’s Automation Platform (IAP). We will use these tools to provision a multi-layer transport networking system consisting of Layer-1 optical transponders and Layer-3 routers.

Goals & Objectives

This lab shows you how Cisco’s Network Service Orchestrator (NSO) manages the full lifecycle of a service deployment (deploy, change, undeploy) across multiple devices and technologies. 

This lab will also introduce you to the Itential Automation Platform (IAP).  IAP is an “operations dashboard” with a robust and highly flexible workflow capability.
